Resonance Characters
Last verified: August 30, 2026
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy tells the story of Sophia — the smuggler introduced in A Plague Tale: Requiem — and the people who shaped her: her father Alec, her crew, and the legendary hero Theseus, whose ancient trials resonate through her own journey to the Minotaur's Island. This guide goes beyond a simple character list: for everyone here you get who they are, where they fit in the story, and — for the companions who fight beside Sophia — exactly how they help you in gameplay.

Sophia is a seasoned plunderer — more fighter than the stealth-focused protagonists before her.
This page covers who each character is and where they appear in the story, including late-game events for the Minotaur and the fates of some companions. If you are still playing, the at-a-glance table is spoiler-light; read individual profiles at your own pace.

Sophia

GAME INFORMATION
Sophia was born in 1312 to a wealthy mother and a smuggler father, Alec. When her mother discovered Alec's criminal life, she sent Sophia to a convent to "cleanse her of her sins" — a harsh, restrictive life Sophia escaped several times before breaking free for good. She reunited with her father, who welcomed her without hesitation, and was raised among one of Venice's most feared plundering gangs, where she experienced her first battles and raids.
In 1334, drawn by a mysterious pull and haunted by unresolved questions about her past, Sophia travels to the Minotaur's Island — an ancient Minoan temple where she begins experiencing "resonations" with the legendary hero Theseus, witnessing visions of his trials as if they were her own. Her journey there — and the truth behind the island's curse — is the story of Resonance.
Fifteen years later, in A Plague Tale: Requiem (1349), Sophia is a seasoned smuggler, captain of her ship The Rascasse, and helps Amicia and Hugo de Rune escape Provence and reach La Cuna.
Personality
Sophia is wise-cracking and flippant, but clever and cunning. She holds herself to a strict personal code: she returns favors without fail and despises owing debts to anyone — an approach that earns her immense respect among her companions. She has a fear of heights, adores treasure, and lives by the line: "I'd rather be a sinner and be free." In Resonance, her demeanor is described as extremely independent and self-sufficient, with an aggressive, offensive mindset — a "warrior by nature" who prefers to avoid unnecessary conflict but does not hesitate when cornered.
Abilities
- Martial prowess: raised with a "sword in her hand" — she can parry attacks and land heavy, deadly strikes, a first for the series' protagonists.
- The prism: her handheld prism can refract light — burning grass to create smoke, or creating an area of light around her.
- The Minoan Sphere: a stolen Minoan device that manipulates light on a large scale — the central tool for the island's puzzles.
- Temporal echoes: her unique connection to ancient Minoa means Theseus' actions in the past shape the paths she finds in the 14th century, linked through the mysterious legacy of the Macula.

The island's trials test more than combat — light and mirrors guard every path.
Theseus

GAME INFORMATION
Theseus is the legendary warrior at the heart of the island's story — the Greek myth made playable. Whenever Sophia touches the ancient machinery of the Minotaur's Island, she experiences resonations: visions of Theseus' trials and battles as if they were her own. These flashes carry her into the Minoan era, where she plays out his climb toward the labyrinth and the creature at its center.
Wielding the Minoan Sword, Theseus is the central figure of the game's past timeline. His actions in the ancient world directly shape the paths Sophia can take in the 14th century — the light-and-mirror machinery she puzzles through was built for his trials, and the doors she opens once stood for him. His story mirrors hers: a warrior shaped by violence, walking toward the same monster.
Theseus died long before Sophia was born, and the game never pretends otherwise. He exists entirely through echoes — his footsteps in the dust, his sword in the walls, and the slow realization that the island's curse and Sophia's own history are one and the same.
Leni

GAME INFORMATION
Leni is a fellow smuggler and Sophia's closest friend — the one person from her world who comes with her to Crete. She is introduced in Chapter II (Felons), where the two move through a guarded town toward the carnival and are searched together at its entrance.
Once the group reaches the island, Leni becomes a constant helper in the ruins. She assists with the climbing sections of Chapter III (Those Before Us), and from Chapter IV (From Hell It Rose) onward her help is essential for the light puzzles — boosting, holding and mirror work included. Where Sophia fights, Leni works the machinery; the two complement each other through the first half of the expedition.
Faro
GAME INFORMATION
Faro is one of Sophia's companions and part of her world from the very start: the opening chapter's second sub-chapter is set in Faro's cabin, tying him to the desert home Sophia returns to in her visions. He travels with the group to the Minotaur's Island and becomes a regular helper in the later light puzzles.
In Chapter X (Parallel Paths), Sophia boosts Faro up onto a scaffold platform so he can shine light across the mirror puzzle. In Chapter XI (Patera), he works the levers of the light-beam puzzle — Sophia pulls the rightmost lever and Faro takes over — and later lifts her up on an elevator platform and pulls her up ledges. He is one of the few companions still at Sophia's side deep into the island's trials.
Alec
GAME INFORMATION
Alec is Sophia's father and the reason she became who she is. A well-known smuggler operating along the Mediterranean coast, he led a band of brigands whose reputation preceded him — and whose criminal life tore his family apart. When Sophia's mother discovered the truth about his work, she sent their daughter to a convent to keep her away from his influence.
Sophia escaped the convent and reunited with Alec in Venice, spending her youth among his crew — learning combat, self-reliance and the realities of life at sea in the harshest possible classroom. Before departing on what would become his final voyage, Alec gave Sophia a pendant she has kept ever since. His world became her world; the smuggler's path she follows is the one he walked first.
Ezra
GAME INFORMATION
Ezra is a companion who joins Sophia on the crossing to Crete. Of the small group that sets out for the Minotaur's Island, Ezra is one of those who does not come back — a quiet reminder that the island's legend has always claimed more lives than it has returned.
Irene
GAME INFORMATION
Irene is part of the cast surrounding Sophia's journey. As of the latest verified information, no public details about her role in the story have been documented yet — this entry will be expanded as soon as her part in the game can be confirmed.
The Minotaur

GAME INFORMATION
The Minotaur is the ancient entity bound to the deepest chambers of the Cretan temple — a towering, horned guardian that the legend of the labyrinth was built around. In Sophia's time, it is not a myth: it is real, and it hunts her.
The creature first appears in Chapter VI (What Lies Beneath), where it begins stalking Sophia through the ruins — chase sequences in which you must reach safe zones in the light, surviving by a hair's breadth. It returns in Chapter IX (Night Has Come), hunting through the ruins toward Minos' palace, and in the final stretch of the game it drives the labyrinth pursuit of the closing chapters. The only way to stop it is the Light Concentrate — the sphere's laser beam — used to burn it away.
The Minotaur is the myth made flesh: the devastating curse at the heart of the island, and the reason so few of those who sailed there ever came back.

The island's depths hold the creature behind the Minotaur myth.
Sophia debuted in A Plague Tale: Requiem (2022), voiced by Anna Demetriou. Resonance explores her backstory as a prequel — set 15 years before Requiem — and its post-credits scene teased this follow-up. The Macula, the ancient curse central to Amicia and Hugo's story, lies at the root of the island's mystery.
